Restarting My Online Writing Hobby Here
By: Daniel Shin
It’s been nearly six years since I had the chance to update this website, DayMindXPression. It was originally supposed to be an online space for me to collect my thoughts and express them through online essay writing, which is admittedly akin to a blog. This website represented an open canvas for me to develop my writing skills while cultivating my daily observations of the world without relying on any particular social media or online platform.
Although I have not had the opportunity to touch this website for a while, I am happy to say that nothing but excitement and happy surprises were in store during my absence here. Although I didn’t have time to continue developing my online writing hobby, I still had the opportunity to develop other skills, including academic writing, that have placed me in a delightful life stage. Returning to redevelop and update this website feels like meeting an old friend. There are a few technical setups that I need to refamiliarize myself with, but I am pretty eager to continue sharing my thoughts and observations at regular intervals this year.
At the moment, I am re-setting up my Hugo environment, which will be the backbone of this website. The main benefit of using Hugo over other content management systems is that my web server simply serves up rendered HTML files created by Hugo, which ensures low overhead for delivering my content to my website visitors. Using Hugo also allows me to use MarkDown to completely separate my website content from the website engine in a way that makes my writings portable and not platform-dependent.
I need to do some additional reading on Hugo and finish setting up the environment to my liking. I look forward to updating my progress with another post soon! (Hopefully, this relaunch materializes into a regular, scheduled post of writings.)
